With 60 residents (20 per class), we are a large but tight-knit family. While the majority of us hail from the Northeast, we also attract amazing applicants from far-off places like Sri Lanka, Syria... and Canada, which of course makes us even nicer, eh?

We are an incredibly inclusive group with broad diversity of races, ethnicities and sexual orientations. We not only work well with each other, but we have fun with each other and support one another through the tough times of residency. We work hard, but we also play hard!

At the heart of the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Emergency Department are faculty members who form a diverse and dynamic group with academic appointments at the Mt. Sinai Icahn School of Medicine. All are board-certified or board-prepared in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. The faculty actively participate in weekly didactic conferences, teach the core curriculum, serve as preceptors for residents, function as liaisons to other departments, participate in research, and serve as advisors for Mt. Sinai medical students interested in emergency medicine. Senior Mt. Sinai medical students rotate in our department and are taught by our faculty.

As one of the older EM programs in the country, there is a vast network of SLR alumni who are in locations far and wide both in academics and in the community. As a graduate of the program this network is at your disposal when looking for jobs or when you have general questions about a career choice. Our alumni also love to come back for our graduation ceremony, a testament to the appreciation they have for the three years of training and the friends made during this time.
